A Tennessee angler reeled in a massive 2,500-pound great white shark off the coast of South Carolina last Tuesday.
The Facebook page Outcast Sport Fishing shared an a description of the epic fight to reel it in. The angler, Troy Bowman of Kentucky, said that it took almost two hours to reel the beast in and that the shark jumped completely out of the water after being caught on the hook for about two minutes.
“After an insane battle, we ended up getting her boat side at about 7 p.m. to apply an acoustic tag near the dorsal and take DNA sample from her pec fin,” Capt. Chip Michalove wrote. “She swam off healthy and looking forward to finding out where our South Carolina great whites go.”
“We took a DNA clip from the left pectoral fin and then put an acoustic tag at the base of her dorsal fin,” Michalove told ABC affiliate WHAS-TV of the shark.
The data collected from the shark will be used to gain a better understanding of these mysterious predators.
