The Republican Side of Hollywood

In our modern society, a lot of people look to celebrities for inspiration. With the upcoming election, influence from the rich and famous can have a greater reach than ever, making celeb voices of particular interest. Although California has more Democratic voters, there is still plenty of Republican voice to be heard in Hollywood.

At this year’s Republican National Convention, some familiar faces took the stage. Once known as Charles in Charge, Scott Baio spoke at the RNC of his desire to see Donald Trump in charge. Willie Robertson of Duck Commander, known largely for appearing on Duck Dynasty, followed suit, endorsing Trump and describing him as someone “who will have your back” and “always tell you the truth as he sees it.” Retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell spoke on veterans’ issues, sharing his support for Trump. Soap stars Kimberlin Brown and Antonio Sabàto, Jr. also rallied, along with U.S. Representative Sean Duffy, a Republican from Wisconsin, who accrued fame as a cast member on MTV’s The Real World: Boston.

While sharing your support at the RNC is undoubtedly helpful, some celebs share their political beliefs in a more low-key fashion. It could be through the press or social media, but Hollywood Republicans are putting themselves and their opinions out there just the same.

Tough guys in Hollywood are tough in their political beliefs, as well as action movies. Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California, is nominally Republican. The always outspoken Clint Eastwood has appeared at Republican conventions. Sylvester Stallone is also a registered Republican, but is no friend of the NRA due to strong opinions on gun control. Even Iron Man himself, Robert Downey, Jr., has thoughts that coincide with Republican action.

The ladies of Hollywood have plenty to say about Grand Old Party politics, too. Shannen Doherty, who has spent time in the 90210 both on TV and in reality, has openly stated her association with the Republican Party. Along with her, stands registered Republican Susan Lucci of All My Children fame. Thinking similarly on important issues are Melissa Joan Hart, Stacy Dash, Patricia Heaton, Lara Flynn Boyle, Kathy Ireland, Heather Locklear and Laura Prepon. Janine Turner, Sara Evans, and Angie Harmon have appeared at Republican National Conventions over the years.

Though politics are no laughing matter, Hollywood humorists have also set the jokes aside and shared their thoughts. Adam Sandler along with partner in comedy, Rob Schneider, are both Republicans now that Schneider switched parties when being a Democrat no longer suited him. Saturday Night Live star Victoria Jackson along with Miller Lite Comedy Search contestant Sheryl Underwood are on the same page, and Owen Wilson and his frequent, hilarious co-star Vince Vaugh also have beliefs that align similarly. On the bandwagon as well are Blue Collar Comedy Tour members Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy.

Then you have the celebs that pull double-duty, trading in the glam and glitz of Hollywood to take on roles off-camera and away from the mic. R. Lee Emery, Ted Nugent, Karl Malone, and Tom Selleck are classic examples of this because all four serve on the NRA Board, accepting it as part of their body of work to protect the rights of gun owners.

Despite the many names listed above, that is not all. Republicans in Hollywood are alive and well, pushing for the change they wish to see in our country. The list continues:
