Hunting Photo Contest with Killer Prizes

For the past 4 years, SITKA Gear has challenged hunters to see things differently through its Diverge Photo Contest. The fifth annual contest is now underway, and up for grabs is $40,000 in gear and other prizes to the 300 photographers who surprise and inspire the SITKA Team the most.

Think about it – you already bring your smartphone with you on every hunt, so why not take a few extra minutes shooting great pics along the way? Not only will you have more great images to share with family and friends, but you could enter the contest and possibly win big, too! Prizes include full SITKA performance gear systems, GoPro cameras, and all-expenses-paid trips with VIP access to the annual SITKA Gear Rendezvous in Bozeman, Montana.

So what is the SITKA Team looking for when it comes to submissions? Take a tip from SITKA Founder Jonathan Hart: “To Diverge doesn’t require hunting uncommon species in uncommon places. It just takes seeing the hunt in uncommon ways, and then honing your skills to be able to share that vision with others.”

Last year’s Big Game category winner, John Whipple, submitted this entry from an Alaskan mountain goat hunt. The glowing light, unique subject and Casey Dinkel illustrating the steepness of Kodiak in the background all had the SITKA Team captivated.

In other words, look for interesting lighting, interesting angles and interesting subjects. The type of pic that when your scroll through the camera roll on a buddy’s phone makes you stop in your tracks and say aloud: “Now that’s cool!”

Check out the 33-second slideshow below featuring the types – and quality – of images desired by the SITKA Team. Better bring your A game!

When and How to Enter

The entry period is now through December 1, 2016. Hunters can submit their photos at https://www.sitkagear.com/diverge, or on Instagram by posting a new image with #Diverge5 in the caption, not in a comment.

Throughout the contest, the SITKA Team will award special-edition caps for remarkable entries. The SITKA Team will select 30 Finalist photos – 10 in each category of Big Game, Whitetail, and Waterfowl. Voting on the finalists will be open to SITKA’s Facebook fans from December 1-15, 2016, and the top vote-getter in each category will be crowned a Grand Prize Winner of the fifth-annual Diverge Photo Contest.

Good luck!

Being divergent is not limited to just being creative with your camera equipment. It goes far beyond Megapixels and F-Stops. It’s the story behind the shot, what makes it different, and what it took to get it. It’s the struggles, the novelty, and the sentiment behind the photo. Shown here is 2014 DIVERGE winner, Chase Christopher, filled with emotion after recovering his archery bull.
