Video: Alaskan Man Catches ‘Loch Ness Monster’ on Film

A man in Alaska caught something very strange on camera, and it’s lead to people asking, “Are the icy waters of Alaska home to a Loch Ness monster?”

The now-viral video, taken by Craig McCaa, shows a strange thing slithering beneath the dark, icy water of the Chena River in Fairbanks, Alaska. After the video became extremely popular, viewers have been comparing the mysterious creature to the legendary Loch Ness monster.

According to the Alaska Dispatch News, McCaa recorded the 12- to 15-foot-long animal for several minutes, as it swirled in the current below him.

Initially, McCaa thought it could have been a rope of some kind that snagged on the bottom and froze, but others have speculated everything from a sea monster to a large sturgeon. Considering that Nessy has always been a legend of Switzerland, we’ll go with the latter and say this is just a large, and mostly frozen, sturgeon.
