Thanksgiving Special How-To Video: Texas Trashcan Turkey
OutdoorHub Staff 11.24.16
In honor of Thanksgiving, and as a shout-out to Throwback Thursday, we highlight a clever method for cooking a domestic turkey that you might not have considered.
Sure this video is 5 years old, but the DIY cooking tips contained in the clip are timeless. All you need is a metal trashcan, a brick, aluminum foil, 20 pounds of charcoal, lighter fluid, and matches – or as shown in the video, a propane tank and a torch. (Evidently, not only is everything bigger in Texas, but it’s done faster and more efficiently, too!)
The system is really simple, and you won’t have to worry about a messy cleanup. Sure, the foil will need to be tossed afterward, but you have a trashcan handy, right?
When this cowboy lifts off the trashcan, you can almost smell the perfectly cooked, golden-brown bird. All you need now are some mashed potatoes, gravy, perhaps a bit of rabbit food (i.e. a salad), a cold beverage (this guy probably drinks Lone Star Beer), and a TV tuned to the football game (our Texas chef will watch Redskins @ Cowboys, 3:30 pm CST).
From all of us at OutdoorHub, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
