Most muskie anglers are serious anglers who take great care in releasing every fish they catch. Of course, sometimes things don’t go according to plan, and for the shore angler featured in the video below, it’s safe to say he wasn’t expecting to hook Esox masquinongy.
That said, this isn’t the angler’s first rodeo. You can tell by the way he quickly and deliberately grabs the muskie’s tail and then immediately gets his second hand in a good support position under the belly of the fish. In fact, at this point, his fish-handling technique is perfect.
But things quickly go south when the big fish torques out of his hands. The angler no doubt feels bad about dropping the muskie on the rocky shoreline, but he doesn’t have much time to pout as he tries to corral the escaping fish.
And then, well . . . just watch and see for yourself. (Final tip: Don’t do as this angler; protect your smartphone with a waterproof LifeProof case.)
