Video: Jumping Smallmouth Bass Nets Itself

While some anglers such as Edwin Evers make a living as a professional bass fisherman, there are thousands more who are ultra talented when it comes to putting fish in the boat – and do well in local tournaments – but they have jobs outside the fishing industry to pay the bills.

One such angler is Tai Au (above). He’s a husband, father of two, and an insurance agent who loves bass fishing. As the recent standings shown below indicate, Tai is in second place for Angler of the Year points in the Wild West Bass Trail.

A Facebook video posted by Tai caught our attention recently, and we thought you’d enjoy it, too. Tai wrote: “Best thing about having a GoPro is you can capture and relive some of those awesome moments out on the water! This smallmouth was wearing Air Jordans! Nothing but net on this one!”

If you’re curious about the gear used in the clip below, Tai explained: “Special thanks to Wild West Bass Trail and Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits! I caught this fish on a 5-inch, wacky-rigged Senko in baby bass. Rod setup is a Dobyns Rods, 702 Champion Extreme paired with a Daiwa Corporation – USA Luvias 2000 and 8-lb Fluorocarbon P-Line.”

Great video, Tai, and good luck in your next tournaments!
