Good news for farmers who love to hunt: Canada’s far north is warming up, and the government is dishing out free land to attract more farmers to the region.
That’s right, according to Alaska Dispatch News, the Yukon is becoming less of an inhospitable environment thanks to global warming, and the opportunities could be endless.
To qualify for your free 160-acre lot of land, you must be Canadian or a permanent resident who has been living in the Yukon for more than a year, ADN reports. You will also be required to pay for surveying, pledge to make investments in the property, as well as meet other conditions in order to join the initiative.
Another thing worth pointing out: Those who receive free land in the Yukon must farm on the property for at least 7 years before they can sell it.
As far as the weather goes up there in the Great North, temperatures are said to be on the rise, so now might be the best time to make a move. After all, average temps in the Yukon have been recorded 2 degrees warmer in the past 50 years due to climate change, one Canadian study found.
