After shooting a big bull moose twice, Rodney Buffett assumed the animal was dead, until it sprang back to life and sent Rodney to the hospital.
This crazy story comes out of Newfoundland, where Buffett was hunting alongside his fiancée, and where he found himself literally fighting for his life against a huge bull moose.
According to CBC News, Buffet says he put two shots on the animal, watched it pile up, and thought for sure it was dead. Like the experienced hunter that he his, Buffett approached the animal with caution.
“I thought he was dead. I laid my gun down and turned back to my fiancée and told her to bring down my knives. When I turned around again he was up.”
The moose lunged at Buffett and the fight was on. He held onto the animal by its massive antlers and used every ounce of strength in his body to steer the bull away.
In the meantime, Buffett’s fiancée watched the whole ordeal helplessly through binoculars.
Buffett said he landed a few good blows to the moose’s forehead, and the animal finally gave up and ran into the woods.
Once the dust settled, Buffett would need to be airlifted to a nearby hospital to tend his wounds. He received several stitches and staples in his head, but reportedly didn’t suffer a concussion.
“I’ve got hoof prints in my forehead,” he told the St. John’s Morning Show.
Despite the freak incident, Buffett said it’s nowhere near enough to keep him out of the woods.
“I’m hoping to be back moose hunting again about Friday or Saturday with any luck at all,” he stated. “I’d go today, but no, [the doctor] wouldn’t let me.”
Buffett sounds like a true die-hard hunter, and you’ve got to love someone who has such strong passion for hunting!
