Statistics show that gun theft is on the rise in the U.S., so if you’re wracking your brain for Christmas list ideas this year, make sure you add a new gun safe to the top of that list. According to Business Insider, an investigation ran by NBC and The Trace showed that 237,000 guns were reported stolen in the U.S. in 2016 – A 68% bump from 2005.
“The impact of gun theft is quite clear,” Frank Occhipinti, an official with the ATF reportedly said. “It’s devastating to our communities.”
We’re all for personal responsibility – and even more so, firearm safety – so if you have a firearm at home, we cannot stress enough the importance of securing it in some type of lock box or gun safe.
The numbers – as BI reports – are not in legal gun owners favor. So collectively, we can do a better job at ensuring everything in our power goes toward keeping guns out of the hands of the wrong people.
