Video: Oryx Gets Surprised by Agitated Python

We saw this video on Facebook over the weekend, and thought we’d throw our two cents into the debate over what happened.
The video shows an oryx approach a feeding container on a farm near the Swakop Port dam. Just as the oryx is about to dip its head into the container, a python lashes out and bites the oryx right in the face.
After viewing the video, some folks got the notion that the python may have actually been hunting the oryx. But in our opinion, we believe it was simply a reaction the snake made to protect itself, and the large surplus of food it just discovered.
It’s really incredible footage, and demonstrates just how cutthroat it can be living in Africa. Sometimes you have to be willing to take on an animal that’s much bigger than you are to survive . . .
