President Trump made an announcement Tuesday, stating that “bump stocks,” or any devices used to enhance the rate of fire in semiautomatic guns, be banned.
According to CNBC, Trump signed a memorandum recommending that Attorney General Jeff Sessions officially deem bump stocks illegal.
Bump stocks were first called into question by congress after a gunman in Las Vegas killed 58 people and wounded several hundred more using at least 12 rifles equipped with bump stocks.
Trump’s surprising order was made nearly a week after a gunman entered a Parkland, Florida, high school, and opened fire on students using an AR-15 rifle.
