Video: 8-Foot Sturgeon Explodes Out of Water Nearly Sinking Angler’s Kayak

Two Idaho men fishing the Snake River last weekend had a very close encounter with a seemingly prehistoric giant.

Steve Carroll and Bryce Thompson were fishing from kayaks when Carroll found himself in an hour long fight with a fish that measured 8-feet long and 3-and-a-half feet around.

“It was an awesome experience,” Carroll said, adding that this was the biggest sturgeon he’d ever caught. And for Thompson, it was his first time ever pursuing sturgeon, so this was quite the show for him!

According to Fox News, Thompson saw Steve on his YouTube channel, and decided to reach out to him for tips on catching sturgeon from a kayak. Carroll was more than happy to teach Thompson because like many outdoorsmen, “igniting the passion in other people,” is one of his favorite aspects of the outdoors.

The highlight of the battle, however, came when the sturgeon exploded out of the water nearly jumping right in Carroll’s lap, which judging by its size, would have easily capsized his kayak.
