Licata will join MeatEater founder and Chief Content Officer Steven Rinella and CEO Kevin Sloan to grow the Chernin Group-backed brand as MeatEater, Inc. expands its online and print publishing, podcasting, video content, and live events efforts. MeatEater, Inc. currently produces the eponymous Netflix Original series, MeatEater, now in its seventh season, as well as four podcasts including The MeatEater Podcast, the top ranked podcast in the Outdoor category on Apple Podcasts and currently a top-ten ranked show in Apple’s Sports & Recreation podcast category. In addition to daily content on themeateater.com, the company has also just inked a new two-book deal with Random House following the November 2018 publication of the instant bestseller, The MeatEater Fish & Game Cookbook, Rinella’s sixth book published by Random House.

For the past seven years, Licata has served as editorial director of Bonnier Lifestyle Group, where he oversaw print and digital content across industry leading publications including Field & StreamOutdoor LifeSaveur, and Popular Science. Additionally, Licata has held various positions at Field & Stream magazine since 1999, including ten years as editor-in-chief.

“Anthony is one of the most respected leaders in the outdoor media,” said Rinella. “I have long admired him as a writer and editor, and I am thrilled he’s joining the MeatEater team. It is our goal to produce the most engaging content in what we call ‘HFCC’–hunt, fish, conservation, culinary–and there is literally no better partner to help us achieve this ambition than Anthony.”

“I’ve spent the last twenty years pursuing a career that is in firm alignment with Steven and MeatEater’s ethos of spreading a deeper understanding of how the natural world enriches all of our lives,” said Licata. “MeatEater is leading the future of outdoor media with a unique perspective that brings us all closer to nature, the outdoors, and the culture and community that surround them–I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

According to a 2017 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service report, more than 40 percent of the U.S. population aged 16 and over participated in wildlife-related activities in 2016, spending over $150 billion annually in those pursuits. MeatEater, Inc.’s hiring of Licata is yet another example of the company’s commitment to serving this vast, passionate community by providing robust, unique, and industry-leading content across its channels.

MeatEater, Inc. has seen substantial growth since launching in October 2018. In addition to Licata, the company has added executives from the fashion, technical apparel, publishing, and tech worlds to round out its leadership team to meet the rising demand for outdoor-related content and experiences.

“Since our company launch last fall, we’ve seen tremendous gains in website traffic, podcast downloads, social media followers, and revenue,” said Kevin Sloan, MeatEater CEO. “We’re excited to see how MeatEater’s content will continue to thrive and expand under Anthony’s stewardship.”
