‘The Fight Went on for Hours’: Golfers Capture Video SC Alligators Brawl on Golf Course

A golfer came across a tense battle between two alligators last week while golfing with friends at The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

While approaching the 18th green, Matthew Proffitt noticed two adult alligators locked onto each other with their powerful jaws while rolling around in the middle of the fairway. Proffitt’s video, which was posted to the golf club’s Facebook page, shows only a short clip of the large alligators thrashing around, but Proffitt said the fight carried on for about two hours.

“Sudden death playoff on the 18 yesterday! Keep your eyes open out there, the course is full of wildlife!”

“They would lay still for a few minutes, with their jaws locked on each other, and then try to roll or shake,” Proffitt said. Alligators are common in the area, according to Proffitt, but this was the first encounter of this type for him.
