Springfield Armory has built several high-quality firearm platforms through the years, however bolt-action rifles were the one thing missing from their impressive lineup of firearms. That’s no longer the case anymore, though, as the company has unveiled today their first take at a BOLT-ACTION rifle! The Springfield Armory Model 2020 Waypoint.
Springfield’s move to break from its mold of building high-performance handguns and AR-type-rifles may cause some concern in a handful of folks, but rest assured the Model 2020 is precision manufactured to bring you guaranteed accuracy you can expect from SA.

The foundation for a good rifle begins in the action. It is where all of the (no pun intended) action occurs. Your barrel is affixed to the action. You are manipulating the bolt through the action with each shot fired. Your magazine is loaded through your bottom metal into the action. Your optics are mated atop the action. Everything of importance occurs in, about, on, or around the action. That is why it is important that rifle companies take so much care in constructing a well-crafted action. Carbon Fiber Stock – Springfield Armory Model 2020 Waypoint
The next most prominent feature in the NEW Model 2020 Waypoint from Springfield Armory is their employment of Carbon Fiber Stocks. They collaborated with AG Composites, a premium manufacturer of carbon fiber stocks, to reduce weight and allow for a custom pillar-bedded relationship between their Model 2020 action and these new carbon fiber stocks.

Accuracy + Lock Time – Springfield Armory Model 2020 Waypoint

Well, the Model 2020 Waypoint has a 0.75 MOA (Minute of Angle) Accuracy Guarantee out-of-the-box. Simply use match-grade factory ammunition and Springfield guarantees this rifle can shoot. What helps ensure this accuracy is also the lightning-fast lock time. That is explained in greater detail below.
“Lock time is the time it takes from the break of the trigger until the firing pin strikes the primer. The Model 2020 delivers primer strike in just 1.9 milliseconds, up to 45 percent faster than the competition. That is why it is pleasing to see such a quality trigger like the TriggerTech one deployed in the Model 2020 Waypoint. It is user-adjustable from 2 ½ – 5 Lbs so you can hand choose the pull weight that is most comfortable for you to pull off repeated successful shots.
The final question likely plaguing everyone’s mind is how much are these going to cost?… Well, taking into consideration the specifications and quality laid out before us from Springfield Armory they punch in at a moderate price-point. They start at $1,699 and top out at $2,399 depending on the tier of Model 2020 Waypoint you choose.
