This Whitetail’s Gruesome Injury has Baffled the Internet

The internet has been dumbfounded recently, after a trail camera in southern Illinois captured a whitetail buck walking around with a horribly gruesome injury carved into his back.

WARNING: this video is pretty graphic.

The footage was captured last weekend when local hunter Chris Evans (not to be confused with Captain America) began seeing the buck with the impossibly large wound across its back. First, in a somewhat blurry photo taken on Saturday and then in a video the following day, which revealed the true severity of the deer’s wound. And this coming straight from a hunter, it’s the last thing any of us want to see – I believe I speak for most deer hunters out there on this one.

According to MeatEater, Evans is unsure what may have caused the injury, but has been attempting to find answers by reaching out to neighbors who own land in the immediate area.

“Pretty wild ting to see a deer still walking after something like this,” Evans explained. “We are trying to see if we can find and kill him if he is still alive.”

Speculation as to what could have possibly happened range everywhere from a flesh-eating disease causing infection to a car hitting him, however the scenario that seems most likely at this point is the buck somehow got caught in a combine.

Whichever way you spin it, the fact this deer has been able to survive with a gaping wound that reveals his shoulder blade rocking back and forth as he walks, is mind-blowing to say the least.

The injury is without a doubt fatal. Whether it’s coyotes who eventually catch up to him, infection or winter.. this bucks’ days are numbered.

Nature sure is wild..

Again, please heed this warning. The footage is graphic. If the video fails to play, follow this link to YouTube to watch.
