Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Announces Aquaculture Grant Opportunity

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) announced a new grant opportunity to enhance Michigan’s aquaculture industry. Proposals must be received by MDARD no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011.

The request for proposal provides a unique opportunity to help grow the state’s aquaculture industry by working with project partners and the selected grantee to develop a guide that will assist individuals interested in developing, building, processing, and marketing a new or existing aquaculture facility in Michigan.

The grant proposal should not exceed $100,000; preference will be given to Michigan entities. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, local, state, and federal government entities, for-profit organizations, and universities. The organizations must be legal entities recognized by the IRS.

The partners supporting this effort include Michigan Farm Bureau, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan Aquaculture Association, The Herrick Foundation, and Michigan State University.
