Colorado’s Trinidad Lake State Park Closes Boat Ramp for Winter

Trinidad, CO – Trinidad Lake State Park will remove its dock and close the boat ramp for the winter on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011. The boat ramp should reopen to boaters on March 1, 2012. depending on weather.
During the closure period, trailered boats are not allowed on the lake although hand-launched boats are still permitted. Caution is advised if venturing out on the water as the lake’s temperature is rapidly cooling.
The winter months can still be a great time to visit the park and do a little shore fishing or hike some of the ten miles of trails available to the public. Hundreds of ducks and geese have been spotted on the lake recently as they head south for the winter. In addition, 25 electric campsites—some with full hookups—along with family restrooms and showers remain available throughout the winter.
Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado, Trinidad Lake State Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities and spectacular views of the surrounding mesas and mountains. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife and the lake itself provides for numerous water recreation experiences. The park also features miles of hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, seasonal hunting opportunities and unusual geologic formations.
