Rocks Will Tell the Story of Monroe Lake, Indiana on Jan. 30

   01.24.12

The free program, Rocks Tell a Story: The Geology of Monroe Reservoir, will be offered at the Monroe County Public Library on Monday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m.

The program will be presented by Jill Vance, interpretive naturalist for Monroe Lake, in Room 1C of the library, located at 303 E. Kirkwood Ave. in Bloomington.

Vance will be turning the pages of the rock layers to unveil the story hidden within them, starting around 350 million years ago.

“Rocks reveal clues to past landscapes, ancient life forms, and a changing Earth,” Vance said. “Without these rocks, we wouldn’t have this reservoir to enjoy today.”

The story will focus on the area around what is now Monroe Lake.

The program is suitable for adults, teenagers and older elementary students with an interest in geology.

Questions about the program should be directed to Vance at (812) 837-9546.
