Marlin Sunglasses Art by Costa Displayed at MBS by The Billfish Foundation

What do you get when you mix lenses, hinges, frame arms, nose pads, side shields and retainer cord segments from hundreds of Costa sunglasses?

The answer: a very unique, one-of-a-kind blue marlin sculpture that the internationally famous sunglasses manufacturer and longtime TBF sponsoring partner has donated to The Billfish Foundation for its conservation efforts.

TBF is showcasing the Costa sculpture at the Miami Intl. Boat Show, Feb. 16 – 20 in its Big Game Room booth #2240. The foundation will promote the sculpture online and at various events throughout the year before auctioning it off at its 23rd Annual TBF Tag & Release Awards Ceremony in February 2013. All proceeds will benefit billfish conservation efforts.

The marlin art was featured in a recent Costa advertising campaign.  Costa also made a splash with a tarpon and a bass built entirely using sunglass lens color and frame technology necessary to catch that particular species. The three works were given to worthy organizations.

The marlin glows with dozens of Costa’s 580 blue mirror lenses as scales and silver and black frame arms as fins. Side shields and retainer cords add realistic detail to the billfish body.

“The response to the marlin sculpture has been incredible,” said Costa VP of Marketing Al Perkinson. “We donated it to TBF for the great things they’ve done for over a quarter of a century to preserve angling heritage and promote sustainable sport fishing.”

“Costa’s one-of-a-kind blue marlin sculpture has an intricate level of detail– it’s truly a priceless work of art,” said Ellen Peel, President of TBF. “It’ll be the main attraction in our booth and will raise awareness of the important work we’re continually doing across the globe.”
