With the numbers of women purchasing firearms on the rise, and more and more women taking firearms training courses, representatives from Minnesota’s first Gander Mountain Academy will be on hand at the 2012 Twin Cities Women’s Expo to serve this growing constituency. This is a first-of-its-kind appearance which will include representatives from the nation’s premier outdoors retailer.
“One of the biggest trends we’ve seen in the past year, with the opening of six Gander Mountain Academy facilities throughout the country, is significant numbers of female firearms owners who are interested in learning more about safe and proper handling, and general self-defense,” said Chris Juelich, national director of Gander Mountain Academy. “As the nation’s largest retailer of firearms, we feel it is our duty to provide men and women with opportunities for top-level training. This is an exciting effort to showcase our courses designed specifically for women, where they can learn firearms safety and proficiency with their peers in a comfortable and welcoming environment.”
The second annual Twin Cities Women’s Expo will be held Feb. 25-26 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Gander Mountain Academy will offer videos showing the highlights of the facility, as well as professional instructors on-site to answer questions about safety and self-defense training. They will also feature special offers for women interested in classes covering firearms fundamentals and certification for Minnesota conceal and carry permits.
The state’s first Gander Mountain Academy is located in Lakeville and offers the most advanced training technology available to the public, including full-immersion high definition 300-degree and 180-degree simulators, a virtual firing range where students can practice with actual firearms modified for laser technology and realistic recoil on a wide variety of targets and programmed exercises, and a full live-fire range staffed by trained Range Masters. The academies also offer free family safety courses, to help ensure proper handling and storage of firearms.
The Lakeville academy currently offers three courses designated “Ladies Only”: Concealed Carry, Handgun Fundamentals and Intermediate Handgun Fundamentals. Customers may register for classes or schedule time for Gander Mountain Academy activities in person, by phone or on the web at www.gandermountain.com and clicking on “Gander Mtn. Academy.”
