Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Glenwood Springs area office, located at 50633 Highway 6 & 24, will permanently close Feb. 27 as the agency prepares to move into its new office located off of the Canyon Creek exit south of Interstate 70, approximately four-and-a-half miles west of Glenwood Springs.
The new, state-of-the-art Glenwood Springs Service Center Complex will open to the public on March 1.
“We had outgrown our crowded facility a long time ago,” said Area Wildlife Manager Perry Will. “One of the big reasons we’re looking forward to the move is because it will help us provide better customer service.”
Designed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife engineers with input from area staff, the 4,800 square-foot facility had been in the planning stages for nearly 11 years. Groundbreaking for the project occurred in June 2011, and construction wrapped up very close to the anticipated completion date of Feb. 1.
The new building is designed to maximize energy efficiency and minimize maintenance expenses through the use of environmentally friendly features and durable construction materials.
“Among its various features, the building is protected by a nearly maintenance-free, leak-resistant standing seam metal roof and exterior walls made of split-face concrete masonry blocks,” said engineer Steve Ryan. “We are very satisfied with the facility, and look forward to reduced energy and maintenance costs in the years to come.”
In addition, the building is owned by CPW rather than leased, which will result in additional savings.
Wildlife managers, biologists, technicians and administrative staff at the new Glenwood Springs Service Center Office Complex are excited about the move, and invite the public to visit once it opens.
“It’s a really nice facility,” said Will. “I have a very hard-working, dedicated staff and we wanted a facility that our staff and customers would be proud of.”
To get to the new office, take Canyon Creek Exit 109 from I-70, and follow the road south of the interstate to 0088 Wildlife Way.
