A report highlighting the various activities of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries Division during 2011 has been produced and is now available online at www.michigan.gov/fishing.

The 2011 Fisheries Division Accomplishments Report summarizes the programs and work completed in the past fiscal year by division staff in an effort to maintain and improveMichigan’s fishery. The report categorizes the division’s work into three sections: fish, habitat and people.

The fish section explains activities related to understanding and improvingMichigan’s fish communities; the habitat section describes activities related to protecting and rehabilitating aquatic habitat; and the people section explains activities related to partnering with people interested in the fishery. Quick facts aboutMichigan’s fishery are also provided, including the economic value of the state’s fishery and a breakdown of the division’s 2011 appropriation budget.

“This report providesMichigancitizens with an overview of Fisheries Division’s management of the state’s fishing resources,” said acting Fisheries Division Chief Jim Dexter. “It also showcases why our fisheries are considered some of the best in the country.”

Input on the activities of Fisheries Division is encouraged by readers of the 2011 Accomplishments Report. All communication can be shared through DNR-Fish-Accomplishments@michigan.gov
