First Round of the 2012 Superbike World Championships Results

Carlos Checa of the Althea Racing team took first on the podium at the first round of the Superbike World Championships at Phillip Island in Australia, though spectators argue the greatest performance goes to Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing) who took second place.

Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) fought to the end for the third place finish with Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team). Sykes was neck and neck with Rea around the curves, and sped up to overtake Rea in the last few seconds of a straight stretch to the finish line, taking a podium finish.

After the first round of the Superbike World Championships Biaggi is in first place with 45 points followed by Sykes with 29 points, and rounding out the top three with 25 points is Checa.
