OutdoorHub 09.07.12
Sportsman Channel; the leader in outdoor TV for the American sportsman, is proud to bring viewers on an unforgettable journey of buck hunting in America’s heartland on A Rifleman’s Journal. The ups and downs of hunting action takes place in rugged conditions with unpredictable elements that create an eye-popping hunt. Host Greg Rodriguez and his team overcome the odds and harvest impressive bucks and display the true spirit of sportsmen. Be sure to follow the non-stop action on Saturday, September 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
The first day of hunting in Missouri is hardly a “picture perfect” day as Greg and his friend, Irvin Barnhart, battle heavy winds, rain and unseasonably warm temperatures. Despite the conditions and hours of scouting, day two of the hunt proves fruitful. As the sun begins to set, Barnhart and his guide spot a huge, non-typical buck from their ground blind and connect from 330 yards with a rifle.
Greg Rodriguez is also searching for a buck of his own. He is looking for a mature buck that was spotted on trail cameras throughout the hunt. Sitting in a tree stand, the old, mature ‘target’ walks across the field. As the buck begins moving, Rodriguez has to make the best of his difficult angle with an improvised left-handed shot (Greg is a right-handed hunter). But he harvests a massive buck from 80 yards with a rifle.
“I’m an outfitter myself and don’t usually take the opportunity to shoot big bucks,” said Greg Rodriguez, Host, A Rifleman’s Journal. “I live in Texas and this is one of the biggest bucks I’ve taken and it feels great to be on the other side of the guide/hunter relationship. We are both very happy with our experience in the ‘Show Me State’ and would definitely make a return trip.”
