The National Rifle Association (NRA) is pleased to release the latest documentary for the NRA Life of Duty online network, presented by Brownells.
This Patriot Profile, brought to you by Smith & Wesson, shares the story of Randal “Randy” Simmons, the first LAPD SWAT officer killed in the line of duty.
If Randy Simmons were still with us, he would be the first person to tell us that “living for the glory of God is not always glorious.” His life and service to his country and community could certainly attest to that. This documentary provides insight from family, fellow officers, partners, teammates, and those within the inner city projects he impacted. His journey from Division-I collegiate football to a quick spell with the Dallas Cowboys, then the LAPD Police Academy to the Metropolitan Division Special Weapons and Tactics unit all tell the fascinating story of unselfish service, courage and sacrifice.
Rarely do we see the story of a police officer that had such an impact on both the department he worked for and the criminal element he was working to thwart. Officer Randy Simmons’ profile Protect and Serve examines the extreme opposite sides of his “calling as an officer” and “calling as a believer” to change the lives of those he encountered in his community’s most notoriously dangerous projects. Randy Simmons was a respected SWAT officer and trainer, a mountain of a man whom others trusted in with unequaled admiration and respect…yet a man whose physical presence stood in direct contrast to the gentle man he was for those less fortunate. Inspiring, heart-warming, and inspirational, Protect and Serve will touch even the most calloused crime fighter: www.NRALifeofDuty.TV/ProtectandServe.
