Benelli On Assignment:Texas Whitetails at Greystone Castle
OutdoorHub 09.19.12
This week on BOA, host, Joe Coogan teams up with a group of hunters, both experienced and new, to hunt Texas whitetails at Greystone Castle Sporting Club, located west of Dallas near Mingus, TX. The group includes long-time outdoor writer and whitetail expert, Duncan Dobie, Petersen Hunting’s online managing editor, Ben O’Brien, Benelli’s Stephen McKelvain and his son Will, who will be on his first whitetail hunt.
In this first of a two-part episode, BOA takes an honest look at this game-managed ranch where hunting takes place on 6,000 fenced acres. Guided by ranch manager John Fredericks, Dobie chooses to still hunt with Benelli’s SBE II Slug gun, while McKelvain and his son, guided by Robert Brunskill, attempt to rattle and grunt in Will’s first whitetail. With inclement weather affecting both deer and hunters, Dobie and young McKelvain battle the elements and the challenge of finding mature bucks in cold, wet conditions.
The hunt continues on next week’s show when time puts the squeeze on one hunter trying to fill his tag.
Tune in to Outdoor Channel to see BOA airing Thursdays at 9:30 am (EST) and 3 pm and repeated on Saturdays at 11:30 am.
