I hope all is well with all of you. Fall arrived early in the Blue Ridge with nights in the low 50’s and crisp cool days. The leaves are beginning to turn and the color will be a spectacular show through late November.
Twenty over Twenty: Our first weekend guests caught more than 20 fish over 20 inches. The “20/20” Club! The Spring spawn must have been prolific as we have a diverse trout population this Fall. We have hundreds of rainbows and browns in the 4 to 8 lb range and, of course, the monsters in the 15 lb + class are still out there. Match the Hatch! The perennial favorites always work. San Juan worms, many different nymph patterns, white and black streamers and woolly buggers of every color. The dry action has been exceptional and the fish have been taking elk hair caddis patterns size 16 – 18 and emerging caddis pupa.
Nymph patterns: Stone flies size 10, Pheasant tails size 16 and 18, San Juan worms and egg patterns.
Streamer patterns: woolly buggers, Bou faces and Home invaders sizes 10 – 6
