The October edition of Shooting Industry magazine features full coverage of the 2012 Shooting Industry Masters, FMG’s 10th annual “family-reunion” event held in July. The October issue also looks at a variety of top-selling handguns, profiles current trends in the knife market and discusses how dealers can profit from bowhunting.
The 10th annual Shooting Industry Masters, held July 20-21 at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort in Park City, Ky., hosted a record-breaking number of teams and raised a record $54,000 for shooting programs.
“The Masters is a valuable concept. We’re all so busy doing our regular jobs, we oftentimes don’t get a chance to just sit down, stop and play around with the stuff we make. This is a lot of fun,” said Tom Sullivan, Ruger vice president of Newport (N.H.) operations.
Check out the October issue for a full recap of the event. The digital edition also contains an embedded video of the Masters, highlighting the fun experienced by participants, in addition to the networking opportunities available.
Oftentimes, customers and retailers become so focused on the most popular firearms, they sometimes forget about other, equally worthy, handguns, according to Rick Kenny, sales manager at Kastle Keep in Largo, Fla. The October feature, “Beyond Top-Selling Handguns,” highlights options that dealers may be overlooking.
“Firearms customers are highly likely to purchase accessories — and knives are an ‘almost required’ accessory for shooters,” said Joyce Laituri, Spyderco marketing director. Read about which knives spotted at the 2012 Blade Show are heating up sales in “Hot Edges.”
Many dealers are reluctant to expand their businesses to include archery equipment. Aaron Barton, manager and lead archery tech at Nocked & Loaded in Lampasas, Texas, believes that is a costly mistake, noting the crossover between firearms and archery — and the potential to generate more sales.
