This Week on North American Fisherman-TV: Giant Smallies

This week on North American Fisherman-TV, host George Liddle and guest Janet Parker head to Lake Mille Lacs in northern Minnesota on a sunny June day for smallmouth action. Both anglers quickly learn that clear water and a clear day is a recipe for an action-packed fishing day. Later in the show, we’ll learn about the latest inventions to stop invasive species from attacking our waters, followed by the line-to-line championship on Knot Wars Lite.  Enjoy the same action and so much more by visiting the North American Fisherman YouTube channel.

It’s been said smallmouth bass grow larger in the lakes of Minnesota and Midwest than other parts of the country. June is a good time to target both pre and post-spawning bass. And many anglers like smallies for their fight. “Nothing fights like a smallmouth. They are the meanest freshwater fish I’ve ever tangled with,” said host George Liddle.

Parker and Liddle soon learn the water wasn’t quite warm enough this June day for the fish to be in the weeds, but they were more on the surface, in the clear spots. Once they got a routine going, both anglers were catching fish hand over fist. “It’s a great day to be out here – we can’t get enough of catching these smallies,” said Liddle.

This week’s Field Test powered by StuffStuff takes a look at the Handy Twine Ring Knife and Pit Boss bait by Berkley Havoc.  In NAF Club House, it’s suggested to use a fluorocarbon line to keep your line invisible in clear waters. Lastly, “Silent Invaders” discusses the sea lamprey, who are known as “vampires of the deep.” Today’s technology of applying “lampricide” and even sterilizing male lampreys are the best lines of defense.
