OutdoorHub 05.02.13
Leica Sport Optics invites you to tag along as a lucky pair of Trinovid 8×42 binoculars travels throughout North and South America on a quest to view as many bird species as possible. Those who visit www.travelingtrinovid.com will get to follow the trials and tribulations of the Traveling Trinovid as it is passed from hand to hand across the Americas on this “big year” adventure.
Previously known only as serial #2002069, the Traveling Trinovid will be handed off from one birder to another in an attempt to see how many bird species can be viewed through that one pair of binoculars in a year’s time.
Since the quest got underway in Miami, Fla. on April 7, 2013, a total of 263 bird species have been viewed through the Traveling Trinovid.
Rangel Diaz, a naturalist for ECO-ADVENTURES in the Miami-Dade Parks, had the good fortune of being the first to carry the Traveling Trinovid into the field. The first bird seen through the binoculars was a magnificent frigatebird flying over the causeway in Crandon Park in Miami, Fla..
Diaz and other birders observed a total of 40 species of shorebirds, gulls and terns through the Traveling Trinovid during the trip.
Other hosts who’ve carried the Traveling Trinovid on their birding ventures so far include Dr. David LaPuma, John Sterling, Kevin Loughlin and Edison Buenano. As to date, the lucky pair of binoculars has visited Miami, Fla., Galveston, Tex. and San Francisco, Ca.
The journey has just begun for the Traveling Trinovid, which is scheduled to aid birders in locations throughout the Americas through March of 2014.
As a Best in Class of premium entry-level binoculars, the Trinovid maintains Leica’s high standard for exceptional engineering while providing superior value and performance.
Magnesium housing keeps the Trinovids extremely lightweight, while the rubber armoring makes them durable enough to handle rugged conditions and unpredictable weather. The 8x magnification provides relaxed observation while the 10x magnification produces high detail performance. The 42 mm objective lens delivers optimal light for viewing, even in less than optimal conditions. Both model Trinovids provide great contrast/neutral color correction thanks to high quality premium optics.
