Colt’s “Swap Top” LE901-16S Highlights the July Issue of GUNS Magazine

Colt marks the 50th anniversary of the M16 by introducing a groundbreaking, dual caliber LE901-16S, chambered in both .223/5.56 and .308/7.62. This “Swap Top” Modern Sporting Rifle left a significant impression on Contributing Editor Holt Bodinson, who admired this achievement in engineering.

“The new Colt 7.62/5.56 modular carbine was a revelation, especially considering it only takes a couple minutes to make the changeover,” Bodinson says. “To switch from a .308 upper to a .223 upper or vice versa, you must be able to change out buffers and buffer springs, and Colt’s innovative design makes that possible.”

In “Sixgun No More,” Contributing Editor John Taffin covers Ruger’s new Super Size Single-Six Revolvers: the Single-Ten and the Single-Nine. Taffin foresees the Single-Ten, chambered in .22 LR, growing in popularity with new shooters.

“The Single-Six has been a favorite .22 sixgun for thousands upon thousands of young shooters and I can see it easily being replaced by this newer version,” writes Taffin. “These are definitely the best of times for shooters as we have so many choices.”

Additional content in this issue of GUNS consists of the new Smith & Wesson Model 41, simple steps to reduce rifle recoil, a look at iconic handguns of World War II, Winchester’s versatile Model 1894 Takedown lever-action rifle and the facts surrounding ammunition and magazines.
