Springfield Armory’s XD-S 9mm Delivers Compact Performance in September Issue of GUNS Magazine
OutdoorHub 07.12.13
Compact, concealable and controllable, the Springfield Armory XD-S 9mm graces the cover of the September issue of GUNS Magazine. Contributing editor John Taffin pinpoints the advancement of viable 9mm ammunition and how it makes the XD-S 9mm a formidable concealable combination with less recoil than other compact pistols chambered in .45 and .380 cartridges.
“The 9mm is a serious pistol with today’s loads and one that can be shot for long strings of fire with no problems with recoil,” says Taffin. “With the flush-mounted standard magazine in the XD-S I have eight rounds of modern 9mm ammunition plus backup magazines. I’d call that real progress.”
In “Opposite Ends Of The .22 Spectrum,” contributing editor Mike “Duke” Venturino evaluates and compares a pair of .22 rifles from completely different worlds: the traditional Henry Repeating Arms Frontier lever action and the modern Smith & Wesson M&P15-22. Despite being very different, Venturino noted their flawless performance while field-testing these .22 plinking rifles.
“The Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 has never failed to feed or function and the Henry’s lever is so smooth it feels like it’s moving on roller bearings,” Venturino describes. “I had to admit that these two rifles had one more thing in common besides both being .22s and both being American made. They are both fine little rifles for their intended purpose.”
Additional content in this issue includes a brief history of the “flipper”-style safety found on semi-autos, affordable protection offered by the Bersa Thunder 40 Ultra Compact, tips on how to handle the process of customizing a rifle and a special feature on safety, security and storage options by John Connor.
