Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail Will Hit The Calamus Reservoir At Burwell, Nebraska August 24

The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will hit new waters when they travel to the Calamus Reservoir at Burwell, Nebraska August 24, 2013. This is the opportunity for local catfish anglers to compete for cash, prizes and a chance to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat Classic with the top 20 teams qualifying for the classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held September 26-28, 2013 on Kentucky Lake at Camden, Tennessee.

Calamus Reservoir is home to some of the biggest channel cats in the country with 5 fish stringers often exceeding 100 pounds. The Nebraska state record channel cat is 41 pound with Calamus producing 2 fish this past year within 5 pound of the record.

“We are extremely excited to have the Cabela’s King Kat tournament Trail coming to Burwell once again”, said Stacie Newlin, Program Administrator for the Burwell Chamber of Commerce. “I wanted to let you know that we are planning to have a “Cream Can Supper” at the rules meeting on Friday night for all of the fishermen and their families. If you do not know what a cream can supper is….it is a mixture of sausage, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, etc. all cooked in one cooker, said Newlin.

Registration

  1. Late registration will be held August 24th the day before competition at the Burwell High School from 5-7 pm. Captains Meeting/Seminar will follow at 7pm.
  2. There will be no meeting, late registration or boat launch the morning of the event. Anglers will be allowed to launch on tournament water at 5am tournament morning. No fishing is allowed until 6:30am.
  3. Must be a member of the King Kat Association to fish this event. A one year membership is $25.00.

Weigh-In Site

The tournament weigh-in will be held at the Homestead Knolls Boat Ramp. Tournament hours are 6:30 AM until 3:00 PM. All anglers must be in weigh-in line by 4:00 PM with a 5 fish limit per team. To help preserve the sport only live fish will be weighed in and all fish will be released after the tournament. Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will hold the Cabela’s King Kat Kids event at Homestead Knolls Boat Ramp. The event is free of charge and open to all youth 12 and younger. Sign up is from 8:00 AM till 9:00 AM with the Kid’s Fishing Event starting at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. All children will receive a prize just for entering. Bring your favorite rod, reel and bait and show your true fishing ability. All children must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Prizes for winners will be given in two age groups, 0-7 and 8-12. The event is free to all children 12 and under with all participants eligible for a chance to win one of the six, Outdoor Promotions $1,000.00 scholarships to be awarded in October.

Outdoor Promotions and our anglers have contributed nearly $310,000.00 to the “Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Outdoor Promotions “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
