Team Kellogg/Rose Win IFA Redfish Tour Event at Savannah, GA

Doug Kellogg and Kevin Rose, both of Savannah, Ga., weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 8.85 pounds to win the last regular-season event for the Atlantic Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s at Savannah, Ga. on Aug. 3. The duo took home a fully-rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a Yamaha Outboard, valued at $30,000, along with $2,100 in Angler’s Advantage cash.
The winning anglers caught their limit before 8:00 a.m. with spinner baits and spoons in the Savannah River area.
“We went to where I had found these fish two weeks ago,” said Kellogg. “The water was clear and they were feeding. We took longer to get there than to catch our fish.”
Second-place finishers Ray Melvin and Jason Price won $1,563 for their 8.56 pounds of redfish. Their 4.96-pound redfish won the $500 Berkley GULP! Big Fish award and the anglers added another $1,400 in Angler’s Advantage cash.
Mike Laramy, of Seminole, Fla., and Cord Middleton, of Atlanta, Ga., brought 8.22 pounds to the scales to take third place. The anglers fished with Berkley GULP! Jerk Shads on jig heads in the Hilton Head area.
“We had good fishing conditions,” said Laramy. “We were in a protected area so weather was not a factor.”
With only a few days of pre-fishing under their belts, the anglers were glad to come in third place.
“We are very happy with the finish but a little disappointed because we broke off a few that would have won the event,” Laramy said.
Continuing to draw inshore anglers from Texas to the Carolinas, both IFA Redfish Tours include five different divisions, each with a two-event regular season. With budget-friendly entry fees, the two tours offer opportunities to compete close to home while keeping anglers’ expenses to a minimum.
