Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Host Annual Children’s Trout Derby

Close to 2,000 children ages 3-11 and 400 volunteers took part in the 12th annual Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby on the Oconaluftee River in Cherokee, N.C., Aug.3.

The derby attracts young fishermen from around the world and was sponsored by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and local businesses. In addition to fishing, there were games, music, animal exhibitions and a bean bag toss competition that benefitted the Madison Hornbuckle Children’s Cancer Foundation.
