New 2013 Georgia Hunting Seasons & Regulations Guide Available Now

The 2013-2014 Georgia Hunting Seasons and Regulations Guide is now available online and in print, announces the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.

This guide provides important information on season dates, bag limits, hunting licenses, wildlife management areas, quota hunts, youth opportunities and much more.  You may view, download and print the guide at www.gohuntgeorgia.com/hunting/regulations . Pick up a printed copy at Wildlife Resources Division offices and license vendors throughout Georgia.

“This critical customer service publication keeps hunters informed of changes in hunting regulations and opportunities,” said John Bowers, chief of the Game Management Section.  “We encourage all hunters to review the publication each year for any changes to their favorite hunting areas, seasons or activities.”

Major changes to hunting regulations include:

• Changes to either-sex days for deer: To address statewide biological concerns and strike a balance with diverse hunter desires, most counties of the state will have a reduction in either-sex days.
• Special opportunity turkey season: The Georgia General Assembly passed legislation directing the Department to establish a special opportunity turkey season for youth (16 years of age or younger) and mobility impaired persons.
• Dog-feral hog hunting opportunities: Beaverdam, Big Hammock, Cohutta, Chattahoochee, Cooper’s Creek, and Warwoman WMAs will offer quota dog-feral hog hunts this season.

Members of the Board of Natural Resources enact hunting regulations by acting on recommendations made by the Division’s professional wildlife biologists and field personnel.  Georgia’s game and fish laws are enacted by the elected members of the General Assembly.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is comprised of six divisions which carryout DNR’s mission to sustain, enhance, protect and conserve Georgia’s natural, historic and cultural resources. As one of six divisions within DNR, the Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) is charged with conserving, enhancing and promoting Georgia’s wildlife resources, including game and nongame animals, fish and protected plants. WRD is comprised of four sections – Game Management, Fisheries Management, Law Enforcement and Nongame Conservation, which regulate hunting, fishing and boat operation, protect nongame and endangered wildlife, provide conservation education and enforce laws for the protection and use of Georgia’s natural resources.
