Hollen Wins Gold at IPC 2013 World Cup

Eric Hollen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) planned on bringing home some unique gifts for his family on this trip to Thailand, but this time he picked up something for himself as well – a gold medal.

Today the 2012 Paralympian won the first gold medal of his career in Falling Target Pistol at the International Paralympic Committee Shooting World Cup in Bangkok. Falling Target is similar to the shooting discipline of biathlon where the competitor has 2 minutes and 30 seconds to hit five discs of descending size.

Hollen had an impressive debut in the event when he competed in Falling Target Pistol for the first time earlier this summer. At the IPC World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, he made it through to the third elimination round.

Hollen is being recognized currently as Dr. Pepper Ten’s “Man of the Moment” for his achievements – Click here for more information: http://on.fb.me/16LdAcd

Also bringing home a medal in the event is Hollen’s U.S. teammate Mike Tagliapietra (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who won his bronze medal in a shoot-off. Earlier this week, Tagliapietra had a strong World Cup debut in the P3 25m Sport Pistol SH1 Mixed event when he finished fourth after a shoot-off loss in the bronze-medal match.

Earlier in the day, Hollen and Tagliapietra also competed in the P1 10m Air Pistol Men’s SH1 where they finished 16th and 23rd respectively.

McKenna Dahl (Arlington, Wash.) advanced to the finals today in the R4 10m Air Rifle Standing Mixed SH2 where she finished in fifth place.

2008 Paralympian Danielle Fong (New York, N.Y.) finished in ninth place in R8 50m Three-Position Rifle Women’s SH1 – just three points out of advancing to the finals.

Earlier this week,John Joss (Fort Michael, Ala.) won gold in the R3 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed event. Joss will have a chance to bring home more hardware when he competes in the R6 50m Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed event Sunday.

The team is led by USA Shooting Paralympic Coach and 1992 Olympic silver medalist Bob Foth.

The Bangkok IPC Shooting World Cup is the final IPC World Cup event of the season and continues through Sunday. For live results from this event, please visit http://results.sius.com/Events.aspx?Championship=2013IPCShootingWorldCupBangkok20130812BangkokThailand
