This week on Winchester Deadly Passion, host Melissa Bachman brings her Mathews bow to South Dakota for the early rut, but even sitting by a watering hole proves challenging to get in good range. Melissa is in eastern South Dakota set up in a ground blind in the perfect spot – by a water source. Or at least it looks perfect. “This area is run by a strict management program, so I’m looking for at least a four and half year old buck,” said Bachman. “It will be a patience game, but I like the odds with all these deer around.”
The deer make their way from the sunflower field to the water source all day long, but they also sit just outside of Melissa’s comfort zone with her bow. After three days, she’s out of time and heads to Texas to try her luck at her first ever Texas buck.
