During National Preparedness Month, Assemble Emergency Supplies at Home

When a disaster such as a tornado or flood strikes, having supplies on hand can make a crucial difference and even save lives. Yet according to a recent survey, only 57 percent of Americans have an emergency preparedness kit ready at home. During September, National Emergency Preparedness Month, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) encourages all Americans to create an emergency kit, which includes these essentials.

A heat source. When electricity is down, a heat source can be a lifeline. The UCO Stormproof Match Kit contains 25 stormproof matches and three strikers in a waterproof container. The matches are wind and waterproof and have been proven effective in harsh conditions, burning for up to 15 seconds. The Esbit CS585HA Solid Fuel Stove & Cookset heats food and water and is operated by a 14 g solid fuel tablet that provides up to 12 minutes of heat per tablet. The UCO Stormproof Match Kit MSRP is $6.99 and the Esbit CS585HA Solid Fuel Stove & Cookset is $29.99 with fuel tablets at $6.99 for 12 tablets.

A light source. Being able to see in the dark means finding a path to safety. UCO’s Arka USB Charger + Lantern + Flashlight is highly water resistant, switches easily between flashlight and lantern functions, will run 6 to 8 hours on high and up to 100 hours on low beam, plus it’s a rechargeable portable power station for digital devices. UCO’s family of candle lanterns can provide 3-27 hours of warm and reliable light depending on the size. MSRP ranges from $12.99 for a mini lantern to $35.99 for a “chandelier” with increased brightness and cooking capability.

A power backup. Up-to-date information on conditions is essential in an emergency and being able to call first responders is a must, but when the power is down, every minute steals valuable charge from phones and radio receivers. The myFC PowerTrekk powers cell phones and other USB-powered devices completely independent of electricity through a fuel cell activated by ordinary water. It never needs to be plugged in to charge. MSRP $229; a three-pack of fuel cell pucks that supply four watt hours each, MSRP $12.99.

With these items readily available in a kit, along with water, non-perishable food and first aid supplies, homes and vehicles will be well equipped should disaster strike.
To encourage awareness around Emergency Preparedness Month, Industrial Revolution is hosting a Facebook contest throughout September to inform fans of essential items everyone should have in their Emergency Preparedness Kit. We’ll be asking fans “What’s in YOUR Emergency Preparedness Kit?” The contest will feature weekly giveaways to a total of 4 random winners. Giveaways include an Esbit Solid Fuel Stove & Cookset, UCO Stormproof Match Kit, UCO Arka USB Charger + Lantern + Flashlight, UCO Candlelier Lantern, or a myFC PowerTrekk + 3-pack of Pucks.
