Oregon Sturgeon Retention Closes in The Dalles Pool Nov. 12

Fishery managers from Oregon and Washington announced today that white sturgeon retention fishing will close starting Tuesday, Nov. 12 on the Columbia River and its tributaries between The Dalles and John Day dams.

This 25-mile stretch of the river is the only remaining portion of the Columbia currently open to sturgeon retention. Through Veterans Day (Nov. 11), this fishery remains open seven days a week to retention of sturgeon with a fork length of 43-54 inches.

Other Columbia River sturgeon fisheries above and below Bonneville Dam closed earlier in the year when preseason harvest quotas for these areas were met.

Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing remains open throughout the Columbia year-around.
