This week on Gateway Outdoors Charlie Burchfield’s special guest is Dick Bodenhorn who along with a crew of volunteers have been trapping wild turkeys and fitting them with $100 reward bands.

Charlie, and Dick discuss the trapping program which is apart of a five year hen mortality study research study. Hen turkeys are being live trapped and identified with stainless steel leg bands. The birds are then released at the site where captured. The goal was to fit one adult hen with a radio transmitter at each location birds were captured.

Listen in, on Monday November 11, 2013 and learn how The PA Game Commission, The PA Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Penn State partnered together to develop this study that impacts the wild turkey resource in Pennsylvania.

Gateway Outdoors is heard every Monday at 6 PM on WCED 1420 AM, 107.9 FM and96.7 FM, and live streamed on the Internet.

The program can also be enjoyed the following day archived on the WCED Talk Radio web site.
