USPSA Area 2 Championships Bring Fierce Competition to Phoenix, AZ


The United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) held the 2013 Rio Salado Desert Classic Area 2 Championships this past Thursday through Sunday.

More than 400 of the country’s best pistol shooters came to Mesa, AZ to compete in the annual USPSA Area 2 Championship match. The match included 12 challenging courses of fire to test the shooters’ skills with the pistol.

Hosted at the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club, shooters competed for regional titles in USPSA’s Open, Limited, Limited 10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions.

The top winners included Dave Sevigny in the Open Division and Nils Jonasson in Limited. Top Production and Single Stack titles went to Cody McKenna and Rob Leatham, respectively. Craig Underdown took the top Limited 10 title, while Brian Schrock won overall in the Revolver Division.

“This was a tough match, with some of the top shooters in the U.S. all vying for the six division wins,” said Paul Caudill, Area 2 Championship Match Director. “We also all enjoyed shooting under the beautiful fall weather here in Mesa, Arizona,” Caudill added.

The match boasted a superb prize table with virtually every participant coming away with something from the match. Main match sponsor Caspian Arms was joined by over 90 major industry sponsors including; STI International, Springfield Armory, Hogue Grips, Armscor, Howard Leight and Blue Wonder just to name a few.

USPSA matches often involve the opportunity to shoot while moving as well as shoot at reactive targets that are not common in any other shooting discipline.
