New Jersey’s 2014 Week-long Bear Hunt Begins

The state’s weeklong black bear hunting season will begin on Monday morning and continue through Saturday, December 14 in portions of six north Jersey counties. Legal hunting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset daily, and the season runs concurrently with the Six-day Firearm Deer Season.  The season is one component of the state’s comprehensive efforts to manage the bear population.

The NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife reminds interested hunters that a bear permit is required in addition to a current All-around Sportsman or Firearm Hunting License.

For more information, see the DEP news release at http://www.nj.gov/dep/newsrel/2013/13_0110.htm ; for information on black bears in New Jersey, see http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/bearfacts.htm on the Division’s website.
