The start of the shooting sports industry trade show season begins this week with the Dallas Safari Club (DSC) Convention and Expo, and the USA Shooting Team will represent the Olympic shooting sports. USA Shooting will be present during the convention and expo in booth (A31).
DSC support of the USA Shooting Team in recent years has helped elevate shooting performance at the World Championships and Olympic Games and their ongoing support of USA Shooting’s Junior Shooting programs and teams has paid huge dividends.
In 2013, DSC approved a grant of $30,000 to support USA Shooting’s Junior Shotgun Team in Peru. Junior team athletes rewarded that donation by winning six of the eight medals hauled in by Team USA, including two Jr. World Champions, a Jr. World Championships silver medalist, one team gold medal and two bronze medals. Since 2010, junior team athletes, with the support of DSC, have accounted for 10 individual and 10 team medals along with 25 top-10 finishes.
During the convention, the USA Shooting Team will auction an 1862 Henry Original Rifle that was donated by Henry Repeating Arms Co. In support of the team, Baron Technology, Inc. is once again proudly donating its hand-engraving services to create a signature look to the popular rifle. The rifle holds a specialized serial number of USAGOLD1 and will be auctioned off by the Team at the DSC convention.
The revolutionary Henry lever action-repeating rifle was the most important firearm of its time and went on to become one of the most legendary American firearms of all time. Patented in 1860 and used during the Civil War, the rifle’s rapid-fire capability and high-capacity tubular magazine stood in amazing contrast to its single-shot musket counterparts.
The engraving on the hardened brass receivers is hand-cut by Baron Custom Shop’s artisan Heidi Roos, who says: “Inspired by Louis Daniel Nimschke from his record book of originals, the scrollwork design is in the American style: a floral and leaf motif, intricately detailed and surrounding an open banner. The receiver’s top is decorated with simple linear motif, and the butt plate is decorated with America scroll on the back, with the USA Shooting Team logo and 2014 on the top.”
“The Dallas Safari Club has provided valuable support to our team throughout the years and it is only fitting that we’re present during their annual convention to recognize their efforts and celebrate their accomplishments,” said Buddy DuVall, Executive Director of the USA Shooting Team Foundation. “The opportunity to auction a custom Henry rifle during the event to support the USA Shooting Team once again reinforces their commitment to us and we’re grateful to be able to represent this tremendous organization in their conservation efforts.”
Open to the public, the DSC expo will be held at the Dallas Convention Center and offers sportsmen and women the first opportunity in 2014 to shop for hunts with top outfitters from around the globe. Displays also include world-class sporting gear, firearms, art, collectibles, entertainment, seminars, auctions and more. Together, attractions cover the space of nearly nine football fields. Approximately 41,000 people attended the event in 2013.
