OutdoorHub 01.10.14
The 2014 Walmart BFL season continues on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Gator division will be back on Lake Okeechobee for their second tournament of the year. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in the event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.
WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014
WHERE:
Gator Division
Lake Okeechobee
C. Scott Driver Park
10100 W. Hwy. 78 E.
Okeechobee, Fla.
NOTES:
The bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee is expected to be good. If the weather is nice, anglers could see huge catches due to the moon phase. The tournament falls at the end of the full moon, and fish should be shallow and spawning all over the lake. Sight-fishing for spawning bass and flipping and throwing moving baits in the grass are likely to be the dominant patterns. The winner of this tournament is expected to bring a five-fish limit weighing around 27 pounds to the scales.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2014 BFL All-American is being held June 5-7 on Wilson Lake in Florence, Ala. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
