Outdoor Channel Asks “What Gets You Outdoors?”

Unveils New Interactive Consumer Campaign to Captivate the Burgeoning Community of Outdoor Enthusiasts

Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader In Outdoor TV, today announced its brand new interactive consumer campaign, entitled “What Gets You Outdoors?”. The campaign will involve digital and social elements meant to incite a conversation among enthusiasts and drive engagement with the leading outdoor entertainment brand.

“What Gets You Outdoors?” embraces all of the diverse interests that fuel the robust outdoor lifestyle – from bowhunting and flyfishing to cooking and camping, and beyond. The campaign was developed to shine a spotlight on bold adventures, regional interests, personal achievements, stewardship, and traditions and innovations with the goal of becoming the go-to destination to foster a passion for the outdoors.

Outdoor Channel has created a microsite that aggregates all things outdoors at www.OutdoorChannel.com/WhatGetsYouOutdoors. The digital platform includes a Social Leaderboard that highlights the trending recreational activity of the moment pulled from Twitter posts that use the hashtag: #whatgetsyououtdoors. A corresponding Activity Map will mine the geographic locations of these tweets that leverage the hashtag to display a state-by-state snapshot of interests.

Moreover, #whatgetsyououtdoors-tagged photos and videos from Instagram, Twitter and Facebook will automatically stream into a Gallery found on the site. Alternately, users can upload images directly via OutdoorChannel.com/WhatGetsYouOutdoors. And, a Photo of the Day will be chosen by the Outdoor Channel digital team based on the photo that best  captures the essence and breathtaking beauty of what inspires them to get outdoors.

Earlier this month, Outdoor Channel fans were encouraged to submit questions on the site for an Ask an Expert session with Michael Waddell, star of the network’s “Realtree Road Trips” and “Bone Collector.” The digital question and answer (Q&A) gathering drew thousands and sparked an exciting exchange on topics such as a new movie project with the Georgia native, tips on ground hunting and accounts of Waddell’s most memorable hunts. Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, power hunting couple and hosts of “Crush with Lee & Tiffany,” are up next with an Ask an Expert session scheduled for later this month.

“‘What Gets You Outdoors?’ is reflective of the direction of Outdoor Channel. We want to make it simple for our audience to share their passion for the outdoors wherever they are, and for them to be more connected to the network and each other. The answer to this ‘question’ means something unique and special to each and every outdoor enthusiast, while at the same time universally understood by all,” said Bill Osborn, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Outdoor Channel.

“Outdoor recreation is an economic driver in the U.S. and we are the industry’s most ardent supporter. Through the introduction of ‘What Gets You Outdoors?’, we strive to become the epicenter of a social movement that is meant to generate connections between like-minded outdoor enthusiasts and to create a dialogue about our rich programming and popular talent,” said Jim Liberatore, President and CEO, Outdoor Channel.

“What Gets You Outdoors?” is poised to launch this week at the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) annual Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show) and Conference in Las Vegas for which the company is the pinnacle sponsor. Attendees will be able to share their outdoor inspirations by uploading custom videos of themselves in a branded booth on the show floor.

The campaign is backed by a grassroots promotional approach that spans on-air, online, social media, and direct marketing.
