USA Shooting to Attend the Sheep Show; Authentic 1862 Henry Original Rifle Set for Auction

While USA Shooting Shotgun team athletes may have a break in the action of competition, team members and staff are in the depths of show season and are off to The Wild Sheep Convention & Sporting Expo (The Sheep Show) at the Reno Sparks Convention Center tomorrow through Saturday in Reno, Nev.

The Sheep Show is the annual convention and fundraiser for the Wild Sheep Foundation and features hundreds of exhibitors, entertainers, educational events, as well as auctions and nightly banquets.  The event’s live auctions will feature nearly $5 million in hunts, trips, art, firearms, equipment and more special conservation permits than any other convention or wildlife show.

The Wild Sheep Foundation has been a long-time supporter of USA Shooting through their support of fundraising efforts and auctions at their events that directly benefit the Team. Be sure to stop by the USA Shooting booth (869) at Sheep Show to meet members of the Team, including 2012 Olympian Frank Thompson (Alliance, Neb.), National Team members Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jake Wallace (Castaic, Calif.), along with World Cup medalists Kayle Browning (Wooster, Ark.) and Caitlin Connor (Winfield, La.). Team members will participate in the USA Shooting/WSF Sporting Clays event tomorrow at the Captiol City Gun Club and will serve as color guard as well at the Opening Ceremony.

During the convention, the USA Shooting Team will also auction an 1862 Henry Original Rifle that was donated by Henry Repeating Arms Co. In support of the team, Baron Technology, Inc. is once again proudly donating its hand-engraving services to create a signature look to the popular rifle. The rifle holds a specialized serial number of USAGOLD2 and will be auctioned off by the Team at The Sheep Show.

The revolutionary Henry lever action-repeating rifle was the most important firearm of its time and went on to become one of the most legendary American firearms of all time. Patented in 1860 and used during the Civil War, the rifle’s rapid-fire capability and high-capacity tubular magazine stood in amazing contrast to its single-shot musket counterparts.

The engraving on the hardened brass receivers is hand-cut by Baron Custom Shop’s artisan Heidi Roos, who says: “Inspired by Louis Daniel Nimschke from his record book of originals, the scrollwork design is in the American style: a floral and leaf motif, intricately detailed and surrounding an open banner. The receiver’s top is decorated with simple linear motif, and the butt plate is decorated with America scroll on the back, with the USA Shooting Team logo and 2014 on the top.”

The three-day convention and expo is open to the public. For more information about The Sheep Show, please visit: http://www.wildsheepfoundation.org/Page.php/cp/Convention%20Home.
