“Game of Drones” Kickstarts World’s Toughest Drone Airframe – Prepares for Global Domination

Game of Drones is really proud to announce a Kickstarter to launch a new prosumer drone airframe into the market. It’s called the Action-Sports quad airframe, and it’s truly something unique – perhaps the toughest drone airframe ever produced. It can withstand water landings, fire, crashes, high-falls, curb-stomping, water-cannons, and even some direct gunfire – and still remain airworthy. It can even replace the broken airframes of many major commercial drones, turning them from fragile wrecks into heavy duty workhorses. Whether it is battling other drones in amateur aerial combat sports, helping spot lost hikers, hauling payloads, filming a surf video or just soaring around your local park, the Action Sports Quad will turn work into play.
The project was born in the SF Bay Area, the result of years of research in the unforgiving arena of top secret drone “fight clubs.” (“If it flies, it fights” is our motto). After trying everything else – including metal, carbon fiber, wood, laser cut cardboard, found objects and every manner of commercial drone airframe, we were never satified with the durability of these attempts – something radical was needed to produce “the last drone standing.”
Our experiments have taught us a ton about different materials and designing drones for durability, as well as the need for an airframe that can be used with the widest selection of 3rd party electronics, motors, etc… The first materials we tried were styrene and PET plastic, but they weren’t robust enough. We attempted polycarbonate, ABS and commercial Kydex, all of which held promise but each had significant limitations as well. After contacting several plastics and chemical companies, we’ve made arrangements to manufacture our airframes using a special polymer alloy that offers the best qualities of all the other materials. We launched our Kickstarter on Monday Jan 13th and it runs through Feb 13th. We just passed the halfway point towards our fundraising goal and we’re sold out of the early-bird specials.
